First Friday Lunch and Learn- Fannie Lou Hamer

Join us for First Friday Lunch and Learn, a series of pre-recorded Mississippi Department of Archives and History  discussions about current and historical Mississippi events and culture. Participants are invited to bring their lunch to enjoy while learning! The Library will provide water and a light dessert.

Topic: Fannie Lou Hamer

As the daughter of Mississippi sharecroppers, Fannie Lou Hamer worked hard for more than 40 years just to get by. Hamer devoted the rest of her life to the civil rights movement. Four years later, at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Hamer became the first African American delegate from Mississippi at a national convention since the Reconstruction period after the Civil War (1861-1865).
